BSHAA Christmas Bulletin

Festive Greetings – on behalf of Council, I extend warm wishes to all our members and supporters for the Christmas holiday and New Year festivities, and look forward to all that 2017 offers. Can it be a more momentous year than 2016 has been, with all its shocks and unpredictable events? Given the recent decisions by President Obama (read it here) to deregulate elements of hearing care in the USA, and the flurry of announcements suggesting convergence between consumer electronics and hearing care, it is likely to be another “interesting” year in audiology.
2016 has been a good year for BSHAA, as we have continued to win respect across the Hearing Alliance for our contribution to policy, especially our strong stance on behalf of all people experiencing hearing loss. In 2017, we will continue to stay close to the changes in the sector, ensuring members are alert to threats and opportunities, and that we live up to our declared purpose of advocating strongly for members and consumers.
Congress
Details for Congress in May are shaping up well around our theme of “Hear well, Live well”. In addition to a first rate education programme, we are reflecting this theme that hearing care is essential to fulfilment across all of life’s experience, by strengthening our social programme, including a charity golf tournament, a partner programme, and the prospect of reaching out to the local hearing community. Webinar and Belfast development event
Following the success of our first webinar with Douglas Beck, our next webinar is on 26th January, when Professor Nancy Tye-Murray will be talking about how you differentiate your hearing care business. Booking is now open and, with limited places, early booking is advisable on a subject in which members are expected to have a high level of interest. Earlier on the same day we will be staging the first of our regional development events in Belfast with some good speakers and topics. Join local tinnitus networks
Members have an opportunity to join other professional colleagues in local networks that have been set-up to share the latest knowledge on tinnitus. Please do consider supporting this important initiative that can only help to strengthen relationships across the whole hearing care sector. Click here for more
Public liability insurance
All members will be aware of the importance of being insured for professional indemnity, but recent discussions have indicated that some members may not see the importance of insuring against other liabilities that they may incur. The start of a New Year is a great opportunity to check that you are adequately protected against unforeseen circumstances. This is especially important if you provide home visits.
