This is the opening video which set the scene for the 2016 BSHAA Congress when the Society returned to an ever popular venue, the East Midlands Conference Centre, in the beautful grounds of Nottingham University. The EMCC has had such good reviews from delegates, Congress was previously held here in three successive years 2011, 2012 and 2013.
This purpose built events centre is ideal for BSHAA’s Conference – it has a state of the art auditorium with raked seating, excellent AV facilities and an exhibition hall that’s just right for our exhibitors. There are plenty of break out rooms and lots of bright and airy public spaces tonetwork or eat a leisurely lunch.
On May 13th and 14th we took over the whole of the centre for the two days of the Conference and many of our delegates stayed at the onsite Orchard Hotel finished in 2013 at cost of around £20 million.
The Conference was formally opened by the Society’s President, Peter Sydserff but delegates were welcome to Nottingham by local MP Lilian Greenwood who is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Deafness, who updated delegates on what parliamentarians were thinking about the issues surrounding those with hearing loss and how to provide them with the right care.
Other speakers at the event included tinnitus expert Dr Laurence McKenna, research scientist Dr Piers Dawes; Jason Galster who had travelled from the UK to speak about Hearing Loss and Music and also how cognitive ability in a patients can affect hearing outcomes.
The annual gala dinner was at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the centre of Nottingham, with coaches to taking delegates from the EMCC into Nottingham and back, on the night.
