Role models to be highlighted in Deaf Awareness Week

The 2019 Deaf Awareness Week takes place from 6 to 12 May and is this year celebrating all the amazing deaf role models out there.

Deaf Awareness Week is an annual event co-ordinated by the UK Council on Deafness (UKCoD) to raise awareness of Deafness and hearing loss. Each day this year, the campaign will focus on role models in different areas of life and work, education, health, sport, entertainment, family, technology and politics.

You can join in by celebrating your role models on social media and spreading the word by using the hashtag #DAWrolemodels2019. Publicity materials are available on the Deaf Awareness Week website, including posters, leaflets and bunting.

The week is co-ordinated by the UK Council on Deafness, the national umbrella organisation for charities and professional bodies working in the field of deafness, and BSHAA is delighted to support the campaign.

BSHAA members can tell us about their role models by emailing marketing@bshaa.com – we’ll look to highlight these on social media during Deaf Awareness Week. And do let us know of any fundraising or awareness-raising events that you’re holding and we’ll help you to promote them.

Craig Crowley, chair of the UK Council on Deafness, said: “This year’s Deaf Awareness Week is an excellent opportunity to celebrate all role models and raise awareness of Deafness and hearing loss in such an inspiring way for all.”
